Job Summary:


The post holder will be a senior registered Nurse / Allied Health Professional or Social Worker with highly developed experience and knowledge of the Care Act 2014 safeguarding process and relevant legislation. To include Prevent and the Mental Capacity Act and DoLS; and experience in undertaking safeguarding reviews. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Nursing for Safeguarding and other members of the safeguarding senior leadership team to determine the strategic direction of the all-age safeguarding service within University Hospitals Sussex; and to ensure the trust meets its statutory responsibilities with regards to safeguarding those who have care and support needs and are unable to protect themselves from abuse or neglect.

Skills/Experience Required:


  • Qualified Nurse/ Allied Health Professional or Social Worker
  • First degree in Nursing or health related subject or equivalent experience.
  • Masters Level study.
  • Up to date Level 3 Safeguarding Adults training.
  • Experience of working at managerial level.
  • Expert knowledge of the safeguarding adults agenda, relevant legislation and able to demonstrate safeguarding leadership in complex situations
  • Proven knowledge of an in-depth understanding and application to clinical practice of the Mental Capacity Act and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard
  • Evidence of ability to motivate and develop all teams of nursing staff across the divisions
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programmes for clinical staff across different roles and specialities.
  • Evidence of ability to work across professional teams and organisational boundaries
  • Evidence of ability to develop and monitor action plans to improve practice
  • Proven track record of being able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks to and deliver to agreed deadlines
  • Evidence of specialist knowledge and application of national, regional and local safeguarding adults legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Experience of translating national policy into local practice.
  • Evidence of supervision skills
  • A sound understanding of national nursing and patient agendas including personalisation.
  • An understanding of governance and assurance systems and the application to practice. o
