Job Summary:


This role involves providing learning and pastoral support to pupils individually or in small groups, under the guidance of teaching staff. You will contribute to the creation of a secure, motivating, and inclusive learning environment to promote pupil progress and independence.


The Teaching Assistant Apprentice will support teachers in lesson delivery, classroom management, and the personal care of pupils where necessary. This may include being assigned to a specific pupil throughout their time at the school to ensure continuity and stability.


About the School:


Pield Heath House School is a non-maintained special school catering for children and young people between the age of 7-19 with additional learning needs, under the Trusteeship of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Offering day and residential provision to students with a diverse range of needs including moderate to severe and complex learning needs, sensory processing difficulties and associated speech, language and communication difficulties, including autistic spectrum disorders.


Skills/Experience Required:


  • Support pupils individually and in groups to complete work to their full ability.
  • Encourage independence and personal confidence through structured activities.
  • Support social integration and advise pupils on dealing with problems, referring to staff where needed.
  • Prepare resources and learning materials under the teacher's direction.
  • Create or adapt learning aids to ensure accessibility for all pupils.
  • Communicate effectively with teaching and therapy staff, as well as parents and carers.
  • Keep accurate records of pupil progress and issues for teacher reference.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as photocopying, filing, displays, and data entry.
  • Provide personal care and support with feeding, toileting, hygiene, and mobility (where applicable).
  • Supervise pupils during non-teaching times to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Carry out other duties appropriate to the level of the post as directed.

Training and Development:


As an apprentice, you will receive support through both on-the-job learning and formal training as part of your apprenticeship programme. This will typically include:


  • Study towards a relevant qualification, Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma.
  • On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced professionals.
  • Regular review meetings to track progress and development.
