Risk & Safeguarding Lead Adult Pathway

We are looking for an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join Psicons Risk & Safeguarding team as a Risk & Safeguarding Lead, with a particular focus on our Adult pathway.

This is an opportunity for a clinician with strong expertise in adult clinical risk assessment, risk management and safeguarding to take a senior role in supporting safe, high-quality care across our Autism and ADHD assessment and treatment services.

You will join an established team of Risk & Safeguarding Leads who work collaboratively across Psicons Adult and Child & Young People (CYP) pathways. Your primary area of expertise will be Adult services, but we are particularly interested in someone who either has experience of CYP risk and safeguarding or is keen to develop their knowledge and confidence in this area.

The Role

As a Risk & Safeguarding Lead, you will provide specialist clinical advice, oversight and leadership in relation to risk and safeguarding. You will work closely with fellow Risk & Safeguarding Leads and the wider Risk & Safeguarding team, including Assistant Psychologists, Psychological Triage Assistants and Risk & Safeguarding Coordinators.

You will use your clinical expertise to support complex decision-making, respond to clinical escalations and ensure that risk and safeguarding concerns are identified, assessed and managed appropriately throughout a clients journey.

The role includes:

  • Providing specialist advice and leadership in relation to clinical risk and safeguarding.
  • Assessing and responding to complex, changing or escalating clinical risk and safeguarding concerns.
  • Providing clinical oversight, support and direction to colleagues within the wider Risk & Safeguarding team.
  • Supporting triage and screening processes and advising on the safest and most appropriate pathway for clients.
  • Responding to clinical escalations and providing clear, proportionate and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Supporting decisions around onward referral or alternative services where a clients needs or level of risk fall outside the scope of Psicons services.
  • Working collaboratively with clinicians, operational colleagues, clients, families, referrers and external agencies.
  • Working alongside fellow Risk & Safeguarding Leads to promote consistent, high-quality clinical decision-making and provide cross-cover across pathways where appropriate.
  • Contributing to training, clinical audit, quality improvement and the ongoing development of Psicons risk and safeguarding practice.
  • Participating in an out-of-hours clinical risk and safeguarding rota covering evenings and weekends.

About You

We are looking for someone who is confident working autonomously with complex adult clinical risk and safeguarding presentations, while also enjoying collaborative working and supporting the development of others.

You will need:

  • Current registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
  • Significant post-registration clinical experience, including experience of working with adults presenting with clinical risk and/or safeguarding needs.
  • Strong specialist knowledge and practical experience of adult safeguarding, including identifying, assessing, managing and escalating safeguarding concerns.
  • Experience of adult clinical risk assessment and risk management, including complex or changing presentations.
  • Current knowledge of relevant adult safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, professional standards and multi-agency safeguarding processes.
  • Experience of managing complex and sensitive clinical and safeguarding situations with a high degree of professional autonomy.
  • Experience of providing specialist clinical advice, consultation or support to clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other professionals and external agencies.
  • Experience within Autism, ADHD, neurodevelopmental and/or mental health assessment services.
  • Strong clinical judgement, communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to provide clear and proportionate advice in potentially complex or time-sensitive situations.
  • The ability to participate in the out-of-hours duty rota, providing clinical risk and safeguarding support during evenings and weekends.

Desirable

Experience of Child & Young People (CYP) risk assessment and safeguarding, or experience of working across adult and CYP/all-age services, would be particularly valuable. However, you do not need to be a CYP safeguarding specialist. We welcome applications from clinicians with strong Adult expertise who are interested in developing their CYP risk and safeguarding knowledge and skills, with appropriate support from colleagues within the team.

Why this role?

This role would suit an experienced clinician who wants to use their expertise beyond an individual caseload and have a wider impact on clinical safety, safeguarding practice and service quality.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside other experienced Risk & Safeguarding Leads, provide clinical leadership to the wider team, contribute to the development of safeguarding practice across Psicon and build your expertise across both Adult and CYP pathways.

If you have a strong background in adult risk and safeguarding and are looking for a role combining clinical decision-making, clinical leadership, collaborative working and service development, we would be keen to hear from you.

Reasonable adjustments

Psicon is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment process. If you require any reasonable adjustments at any stage of the application or interview process, please let us know and we will be happy to discuss how we can support you.
