Job summary


An opportunity has arisen within Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Safeguarding Support Team to appoint two skilled, motivated, and enthusiastic Registered Professionals as an adult focused Safeguarding Specialist Nurse/Practitioner.


The post holders will support the Named Nurse/Professional in embedding a family-focused safeguarding approach across the Trust within a designated geographical hub model as part of the wider Safeguarding Support Team.


The Portsmouth Hub supports the Portsmouth city services which includes an inpatient mental health unit as well as the community physical and mental health teams and works closely with Portsmouth Local Authority.


The Forensic and Learning Disabilities Hub works across the Trust's Adult Low and Medium Secure Services and Learning Disabilities, Secure and Community Forensic, Services. Working closely with both the Local Authority and Provider Collaborative.


The Safeguarding Support Team is required to cover the needs of the clinical teams across the Trust, therefore core working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am -- 5pm.

Main duties of the job


The Safeguarding Specialist Nurse/Practitioner will be part of a service dedicated to supporting and promoting the welfare of adults and children.


The role involves assisting the Named Nurse/Professional in delivering a responsive, expert service that provides daily support, advice and safeguarding supervision to Trust staff, ensuring good safeguarding practices which align with evidence-based research.


The post holder will actively contribute to safeguarding training across the Trust.

The role involves supporting the Named Nurse/Professional in the management of allegations against staff.


The post holder will also work in the multiagency arena supporting and working with the Named Nurse/Professional to support completion of safeguarding reviews, internal and external, including Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SAR), Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews (DARDR) and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (CSPR).

Person Specification


Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Professional on Part 1 of the NMC Register (Nursing and Midwifery Council), or relevant qualifications as a Midwife, Allied Health Professional or social worker with relevant and current professional registration.
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.Evidence of Specialist specific safeguarding training and experience.

Desirable

  • Registered Health Visitor or Public health nurse.
  • Teaching and assessment qualification.
  • Masters Level study or working towards.
  • Accredited safeguarding supervision training


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of significant experience relating to safeguarding adults and / or children using a family approach.
  • Have sound clinical background and relevant post qualification experience.
  • Experience of inter-agency partnership working.
  • Experience of attending multiagency safeguarding meetings.
  • Experience of delivering supervision to staff or students with a sound knowledge of supervision models.
  • Evidence of skills in assessing and interpreting complex safeguarding needs of patients/clients.
  • Experience of completing reports, care plans and risk assessments.
  • Demonstrates strong team player attributes, working collaboratively with colleagues from diverse disciplines to ensure the best outcomes for vulnerable individuals.
  • Is approachable, friendly, and committed to fostering a positive team environment.
  • Maintains a non-judgmental attitude, ensuring all individuals are treated with respect, dignity, and empathy, regardless of background or circumstances and upholds high standards of personal and professional integrity.

Desirable

  • Evidence of recent community practitioner experience.
  • Safeguarding lead or champion in own specialty.
  • Experience of presenting complex, or highly sensitive information to a diverse and large audience.


Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Complete complex analysis of risk for adults and/or children
  • Understanding the role of relevant statutory partners within safeguarding.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the different forms of abuse and neglect and knowledge of emerging safeguarding trends.
  • In-depth knowledge of current safeguarding legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005.
  • Be Familiar with local safeguarding policies, procedures, and protocols to protect individuals across all age groups.
  • Have knowledge of both child and adult safeguarding frameworks, including any relevant local or national safeguarding boards or committees and their processes.
  • Knowledge of the Local Authority safeguarding interface.
  • Awareness of CQC/Ofsted safeguarding standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in the use of a variety of IT platforms to record information including electronic patient records, databases, risk management platforms.
  • Demonstrate strong organisational and critical analytical skills to appraise and analyse health information and share information proportionally in a multi-agency environment.
  • Be able to work with all staff groups offering advice and support and provide individual review and consultation of complex cases
  • Demonstrate leadership and effective line management skills

  • Ability to provide effective safeguarding supervision.
  • Confident in delivering training and presentations to various levels of health or social care staff.

  • Contribute to planning, implementing, and evaluating health and multi-agency audits.
